A NEW METHOD OF DETERMINING THE VERTICAL FORCE EFFECTS BETWEEN WHEEL AND RAIL
The DB has adopted a newly developed technique based on the wheel-centre method to determine the vertical force component Q on locomotive wheels. With stress analysis by means of strain gauges, points are found at which the stress depends on the measured quality Q. The Q method has already proved successful during various high-speed train runs, but there is no doubt that it is capable of improvement and further development.
