NOISE ABATEMENT ON BRIDGES
Noise measurements were made on a total of 20 railway bridges; the structural design and mode of track laying of these varying greatly. These measurements covered different supporting structures, various decks (steel, concrete) and track laid on wooden sleepers in a ballast bed or steel rail bearers, and also rails laid directly on steel and concrete decks or on steel girders. As shown by the measurements, steel bridges with direct ballast-free track laying produce sound levels in the vicinity of the source up to 19 dB(A) higher than those measured on a steel bridge with concrete deck and wooden sleepered track on ballast bed (mass effect).
