APPLIED STATISTICAL APPROACH TO HIGHWAY NOISE ANALYSIS
Such statistical techniques have a number of applications in highway noise studies, and may be used to determine how much monitored noise data to record in order to get a "sufficient" sample size, to account for differences between measured noise levels and noise level predicted for the same conditions, and to adjust predicted future noise levels in accounting for those differences between the output of a mathematical/computer model and the real world. To answer the need for these statistical techniques, an applied statistical approach to highway noise analysis was developed for the Kalanianaole Highway Noise Study. The paper discusses the specific statistical considerations that went into the study.
