ON AN IMPROVED APPLICATION OF KOETTER'S EQUATION
Hearing capacities were calculated by Koetter's equations for the maximum angle of shearing strength as well as for the angle at the residual state, assuming footings to be perfectly rough. The equations were integrated along an observed slip line by taking into account the extent of mobilization of the angle of shearing strength which was determined by combining the measured shearing strains with a stress-strain relationship obtained by plane strain shear tests. The results were compared with those obtained experimentally from comprehensive investigations being made on the shearing capacity of shallow foundations in dense sand.
