ROAD TRAFFIC CONTROL IN THE SOUTH EAST OF FRANCE
The tremendous increase in the number of trips and the high concentration of traffic in both space and time have led French engineers to imagine a new solution to the congestion problem: the "delestages" which are automatic traffic diversion systems that provide for local bypasses of bottleneck areas. The paper also describes road information centers which provide a new aid for motorists; some of them are equipped with an automatic data collection system.
