LOCATION OF PEDESTRIAN GRADE SEPARATIONS: A PRIORITY SYSTEM (ABRIDGMENT)
This paper proposes an approach that rates alternate sites for construction of pedestrian facilities and lists them in a priority order. The priority ranking system requires a minimum number of measurements and gives a uniform system for comparison. Locations are divided into two categories: those at which pedestrian activity exists; and those at which pedestrian activity is not possible. Factors used to warrant the need for a pedestrian grade separation are included. Procedures are developed explaining how all field data should be collected to obtain consistent results. Field data can be processed either manually with prepared charts and graphs or by computers which provides an easy and convenient way to process the data.
