SALVAGE OPERATIONS WHERE ANTI-POLLUTION IS A MAJOR CONSIDERATION
A brief summary is given of delays encountered in mounting two anti-pollution salvage operations. The solution to these problems lies in close cooperation between government and industry and the ability to react immediately with the necessary legal authority, manpower and equipment. The author suggests that major oil companies should make their tanker and oil handling expertise available in instances where they are not committed to take action. Also certain aspects of maritime law may require changes to more nearly reflect efforts to reduce pollution.
