HORIZONTAL FORCES AND HORIZONTAL DISPLACEMENT IN BEAM BRIDGES ON FLEXIBLE BEARINGS

HORIZONTALNE SILE I HORIZONTALNI POMACI KOD GREDNIH MOSTOVA NA GIPKIM LEZAJIMA

Bridge spans made of prestressed concrete and a composite simple beam structure with several spans are cheaper than continuous systems and have very often been used in viaduct construction over the past ten years. However, in most projects the joints between adjacent spans are incorrectly provided by expansion devices which do not provide a permanent continuity of transition in the pavement slab. In the article "prefabricated girder road bridges with transition structures in the form of continuous r.c. Slabs" (ceste I mostovi 4-6, 1976) the structural problems in the longitudinal layout of bridges consisting of a series of simple beams with flexible slabs above the columns instead of the conventional expansion devices are explained. As the function of these flexible slabs can only be realised on movable bearings, the superstructure of prefabricated bridge systems of simple beams with several spans, joined by means of the flexible slabs must, as a rule, be laid on neoprene bearings. This article deals with the joining of beams by means of continuous slabs. /TRRL/
