The author discusses the conditions of use of cement, its laying after addition of mixing water, sand or gravel, and the responsibility of the manufacturer for controlling the raw materials used in the preparation of cement. Laboratory tests enable the technician to see whether cement fulfils or not the conditions governed by standards, but it is more difficult to establish causes of non-compliance. Attention is drawn to the need for full quality control of the cement, which influences the quality of concrete markedly. /TRRL/
