DEVELOPMENT OF ACCEPTANCE TEST CRITERIA FOR FRANGIBLE SIGN AND LUMINAIRE SUPPORTS
The frequency and severity of single vehicle ran-off-the-road accidents involving rigid sign and luminaire supports has prompted a Federal Highway Administration research program to evaluate the impact safety performance of these structures. The program features new testing procedures, analytical simulations to predict impact performance, and a new impact test facility using a crushable impact face with a variable mass pendulum.
