DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: TECHNIQUES FOR BEHAVIORAL TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
This article which discusses the interface between behavioral data collection and analytical procedures with respect to transportation-planning issues, describes the formulation of behavioral data and the application of such information. Behavioral information is applied in market research, hypothesis seeking and testing, transportation systems analysis, and transportation evaluation. Important aspects of behavioral data collection are discussed: sample sizes and selection and questionnaire format. A wide range of transportation-planning questions can be addressed through a flexible combination of 3 key elements: theoretical conceptions of behavior, data collection procedures and analytical tools.
