OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE OF HYDROFOIL CRAFT
The basic performance and operation of a hydrofoil craft operating in the subcavitating range (usually at speeds below 50 knots) is examined with respect to the two general types of hydrofoil, the surface piercing or the submerged foil type. Graphs of performance are given and compared to conventional ships, and the differences in construction and thus the necessary differences in handling, crewing, and repairing hydrofoils are discussed, showing in just which ways hydrofoils differ from conventional surface craft.
