FLOATING REPAIR YARD WITH NEW DOCKING PRINCIPLE

A concept for a novel floating dock design is presented. The idea is that of Sigurdur Ingvason, and is an outcome of the realization that traditionally designed floating docks have considerable disadvantages as regards both productivity and working environment. The presence of the dock walls and the transport roads to and drom the dock make it virtually impossible to design a good working environment and to plan work efficiently. In Ingvason's design, the dock walls are omitted completely and are replaced by a large flat U-formed working deck. This gives easier access to the ship's working surfaces--particularly its bottom--and also provides more space for tools, stores and facilities for personnel. The design is applicable to a number of applications including the repair of oil rigs.
