ON THE ANALYSIS OF THE SYNTHESISED TESTS OF A HIGH-SPEED CONTAINER SHIP IN TOWING TANK

An attempt was made to analyse a high-speed container ship model of 10-0 m Lpp using synthesized towing tank tests. These tests were as follows: (a) resistance test; (b) self-propulsion tests; (c) propeller openwater test; (d) measurement of wake at propeller disc; (e) wave analysis; (f) wake survey. Although the concept of synthesised tests in a towing tank is not established, this experimental approach to ship analysis is though to be potentially valuable. Among the most interesting results obtained were the wave resistance difference between resistance and self- propulsion tests, separation of resistance component, and behavior of the wake at the stern. These aspects emphasize the need to establish a better method of evaluating the resistance and self-propulsion properties of a ship.
