ASSEMBLY HOLD-ON STAND FOR STEEL SHELL PLATED CONSTRUCTIONS WITH SPHERICAL SURFACES
The stand was designed at the Ship Research Institute of the Technical University of Gdansk as an aid to the assembly and welding of steel shell-plated structures with spherical surfaces, e.g. ship sections, tank sections, etc. The main part of the unit consists of a grid of holding-on free-standing consoles fixed to a bed. The consoles have outrigging columns at the tops of which are mounted electromagnetic fasteners. The columns can be adjusted by numerical control to define aspherical surface corresponding to the assembled structure.
