THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD IN CONSOLIDATION ANALYSES OF WATER-SATURATED SOILS
In an effort to analyze the force exerted by the flow on a structure built by the method of sinking of preformed sections, investigations were made of the hydroaerodynamic characteristics with complex flow conditions around bodies. Experiments were conducted in a wind tunnel and in a hydraulic flume. Studies were made of the different intensities in the turbulence of the flow. Attention was focussed on hydrodynamic coefficients. The proper region for modeling the coefficient Cx is discussed. Investigations of the flow of water around models in a hydraulic flume revealed that Cx increases near the free surface and near the bottom by about 10-15 percent. When the body is located near the free surface, a transverse force directed downward in observed, and the coefficient Cy reaches values to about 1.5. The exact values of Cx and Cy for flow of water around bodies depend on many factors and must be determined from data in each specific case.
