VEHICULAR POLLUTION IN CAR PARKS
The article discusses the problem of air pollution in car parks and in particular that occurring at times of peak traffic congestion. Studies were conducted over a range of car park locations to check carbon monoxide concentrations and also lead concentrations in the blood of car park employees. While the results show a large variation in the hazards posed by car parks towards their users, there is said to be a close relationship between vehicle congestion in a car park and localized CO concentrations. The levels of internal CO appears to depend not only on congestion but also the physical configuration of a particular car park. The term 'porosity' is used to define the impact of ambient air movements on air masses within a car park area or structure. /TRRL/
