LOSCHBOOT/FROM BERLIN
The fire-float Loschboot 1 was built by the Deutsche Industrie-Werke, Berlin, for the Berlin fire-brigade and delivered in August 1976. A triple-screw arrangement has been choosen to meet the requirements of high speed and shallow draught, and a specially-developed hull-form allows high speed with a low wave formation. Manoeuvrability is stated to be exceptionally good at all speeds. The main fire-fighting equipment is two combination monitors (range 100 m) fed by pumps driven off the wing engines; a powder system is also installed. Five tonnes of foam can be carried. The layout of the engine room and shafting is shown in general-arrangement drawings of the boat which are included in the article.
