NO. 3 SUEZ-8,000-PS CUTTER SUCTION DREDGER

The horsepower (PS) quoted in the title is that of the electrically-driven dredge pump of this non-self-propelled dredger, which was delivered in mid-1976 and is now assisting in the deepending and widening of the Suez Canal. Her basic design was prepared by Ishikawajima- Harima HIand she was built by Ishikawajima Ship & Chemical Co. for the Tokyo owners Goyo Kensetsu Co. (also known as Penta Ocean Construction). She has been designed for coastal, river, and harbour work in rock beds as well as soft mud and coarse sand, in Japan and elsewhere, and has been equipped with Suez Canal service particularly in view.The dredger has two spuds (stowable on the upper deck) and a "Christmas tree" mooring system. To assist the dredge pump in maintaining vacuum, an ejector is provided within the suction ladder.
