REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF THE SURFACINGS OF PORTABLE METAL VIADUCTS

REPARATION ET ENTRETIEN DES REVETEMENTS DE CHAUSSEE DES VIADUCTS METALLIQUES DEMONTABLES

Because of their design and intensive use, portable metal viaduct decks (epoxy-pitch mortar 9 to 12 mm thick) are subject to cracking, loosening and tearing. Details are given of various methods of repairing these disorders: repair of cracks, carpets of special bituminous mixtures, two-course epoxy-pitch surface dressings with or without polypropylene fabric reinforcement, preformed surface dressings. Reinforced surface dressings seem to give good results providing a mortar finish is used when loosening and tearing occur. Preformed surfacings could provide a long-term solution if the pavement is only cracked. /TRRL/
