SURFACING MADE OF POROUS CONCRETE CONTAINING SYNTHETIC RESIN TO PREVENT WEAR AND AQUAPLANING

REVETEMENT DE BETON POROUX A BASE DE RESINE SYNTHETIQUE CONTRE L'USURE ET L'AQUAPLANAGE

The Beroc patented method, which uses a synthetic resin concrete, was used in a number of laboratory tests. Results showed that this type of concrete had a higher mechanical strength after being subjected to freezing-thawing cycles than the concrete core supporting the synthetic resin surfacing, and a high resistance to tracking and wear. The new material was laid on experimental sections consisting of standard concrete. A first application in June 1973 on a rural road under very bad weather conditions enabled a laying technique to be developed. A second application in 1974 on the national road 89, which took into account the experience gained in 1973, was a complete success. Roughness measurements were the same after 20 months, unlike those made on the control section. /TRRL/
