OPTIMISATION OF CONCRETE HULLS
It is claimed that by the use of high strength concrete, using either dense or lightweight aggregate, concrete hulls can be built not much heavier than steel, and that there is a substantial margin of cost available to refine structure and construction. The solid slab, the voided slab, and the double skin structure with shear connections are seen as the basic structural forms. There is a wide range of constructional techniques available; the method used must be chosen to suit the desired hull shape.
