FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN PROCEDURES IN EUROPE
Design procedures for flexible pavements differ throughout the countries of Europe. Basic information from 14 European countries has been collected covering the type of design procedure, the form in which the procedure is presented, design criteria involved, and the determination of materials properties. Information about traffic loadings used for design purposes as well as statutory axle loading requirements are included. The paper also examines the principles of design and the methods of determining materials properties used in Europe. The assessment of traffic loading in relation to structural damage is also treated.
