DESIGNER'S VIEW OF WELDING REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCED SHIP STRUCTURES
The projected usage of the higher strength materials will require a structural integrity approach with maximum mechanization of fabrication and intensive involvement of welding engineering personnel during the initial stages of design. Sections discuss design and fabrication considerations for steel hulls as viewed by the structural designer and aspects of U. S. Navy ship research efforts in welding evaluation and in weld and process development.
