OFFSHORE (ELECTRIC) CABLE PRACTICE
As the first North Sea oil platforms come into use, the basic cable types and cabling practice on them have become established; future changes are likely to be in cables for special requirements, higher voltages, and the supporting services and accessories required. Submarine cables, for platform-to-mainland and inter-platform connections, will become more common, and design studies will continue on concepts such as remote generation and floating nuclear power-stations.
