STRATIFICATION OF SPATIAL AREAS TO REDUCE MODELING ERROR IN TRIP GENERATION ANALYSIS
An attempt has been to improve the state of the art of trip generation modeling by developing a methodlogy to identify similarities and differences between spatial units in the metropolitan areas, and to incorporate such observations in the trip generation analysis process. The study also considered transportation system supply variables in the trip prediction models, since the demand for individual trips is elastic and depends upon the availabiilty and level of service provided by the transportation system. Details of data collection, analysis and results are briefly outlined, and data related to regression models are tabulated. The study found that it was possible to determine clusters of spatial units which are significantly similar by using the factor analytic technique. Findings related to grouped spatial units for separate generation models, prediction erros, and preanalysis are also presented.
