PREDICTION OF ICE FORCES ON CONICAL OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
An analysis which includes the effects of in plane forces and edge moments, as well as transverse loading, on the forces while ice sheets in a flexural failure mode may exert on conical structures, is developed. The development includes both theoretical and numerical approaches. Using a form of the theory of the flexural failure of a floating ice sheet as a point of departure, heuristic corrections accounting for the end force and moment effects are obtained. A range of results based on the corrected theory is then corroborated using a finite element simulator having certain refinements over the analytical approach, including a more precise specification of the end actions.
