TRAFFIC NOISE
BRUIT DE CIRCULATION
This report describes an investigation into the optimization of town planning with a view to reducing urban nuisance. It comprises a summary report and 4 appended volumes. The theme is the noise emitted by urban motor vehicular traffic. The results concern the following: (1) noise propagation outside as a function of distance and height; (2) influence of traffic density and composition; (3) influence of speed in the case of roads with a speed limit of 60 or 80 km/h. An experimental method is proposed for determining the specific influence of some factors which modify either the mechanism of noise emission or the conditions of noise propagation in an urban area. These factors are, for example: (a) the presence of a signalized junction; (b) the influence of some typical architectural shapes. /TRRL/
