CONCEPTUAL DESIGN OF OTEC PLATFORMS
The status of OTEC (Offshore Thermal Energy Conversion) operation in areas of the tropical and subtropical oceans is reviewed. Characteristics of OTEC platforms, including cost, mooring, maintenance, motions and habitability are compared for proposed designs. Potential contribution to future energy needs is projected.
