STUDY ON THE FLOW PATTERN AROUND THE STERN OF LARGE FULL SHIP
The detailed investigation of the unstable phenomenon on large full tanker models was carried on in Nagasaki Experimental Tank in the recent 10 years. It is concluded that there are three Kinds of flow patterns around the stern of the model six to seven m in length, i.e. type N (normal), type F (fickle) and type S (separated). On the other hand, it is presumed that even in the case of a ship with a considerably blunt stern, the flow pattern around the stern is of N type. Thus, the test results of the model, whose flow pattern around the stern is of F or S type does not simulate the actual ships in a strict sense. It seem to be essential to reexamine the model test technique for such full forms.
