RECENT DEVELOPMENTS FOR STEELS USED IN OFFSHORE STRUCTURES
NEUERE ENTWICKLUNG BEI STAEHLEN FUER DIE OFFSHORE-TECHNIK
To avoid lamellar tearing during welding, steels have been developed, in particular steels with 355 N/sq mm minimum yield point, having improved properties in the through thickness direction of plates. This has been enabled by special metallurgical procedures controlling the non-metallic inclusions in the steel, especially the stringers of manganese sulfides.
