A SPECIALITY ITEM - THE ANCHOR-HANDLING TUG ON THE MARINE - PIPELINE

The Author broadly surveys recent developments in the propulsion, hull form, general arrangements, and towing and anchor-handling equipment of tugs used in marine-pipeline operations. Present indications are that in future these tugs will be required to operate in all types of environment, be able to work anchors weighing more than 20 tons on anchor lines over 1500-m long, have a maximum pull of over 200 tons, and be highly manoeuvrable and able to make full use of propeller thrust during all modes of operation.
