COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF SHIPFORM BY AFFINE TRANSFORMATION

Two methods to design shipforms by means of a transformation from a basic shipform are described in this article. It is possible to use different kinds of shipforms as basicform, and to store these basic shipforms in digital form in the computer memory. Within fixed limits of the block coefficient and the longitudinal position of the centre of buoyancy a basic shipform can be transformed into a new shipform. It is time consuming to prepare a good faired basic shipform, therefore a "design booklet" (which now contains 10 basic shipforms) will be developed gradually. The "design booklet" will have to contain enough basic shipforms as to make it possible to choose a shipform most suited for the desired ship. The transformed shipform is drawn to a given scale by the x-y plotter coupled to the computer. The hydrostatic calculations are included in the program.
