HF A1 MORSE CALLING IN THE MARITIME MOBILE RADIO SERVICE
A brief survey is given of the frequency bands used for ship-to-shore A1 Morse calling during the last 40 years or so. The deficiencies of the present calling system are described. The results of the experience gained at the coast station, Rogaland Radio, through the use of the procedures laid down in the present provisions in No. 1013E of the Radio Regulations, i.e. the shortened calling method of specific frequencies, are presented. A short description of the five proposals presented to the World Maritime Administrative Radio Conference last year (MWARC-74) is given, outlining the main features. The new system, which is to be implemented during the next two years or so, is dealt with, together with Appendix 15C, which is the channelling plan, Resolution No. Mar2-5, as well as the annex to this resolution, containing the distribution of coast station receiving channels, and the use of the common channels. The new provisions in Articles 29 and 32 and Appendix 3 are referred to.
