PRIVATE ROADSIDE MAINTENANCE
More than 1.5 million metro Detroit, Michigan, motorists enjoyed constantly changing wildflowers during the summer of 1997 at three gateway locations in the metropolitan area thanks to privately funded planting and maintenance activities. With the oversight of the Michigan Department of Transportation, Chrysler-Plymouth Superstores signed a 2-year contract to provide the initial planting and maintain approximately 5 acres (2 ha) of roadside at three Detroit area locations.
