THE HULL STRUCTURE: PAINTING DURING BUILDING

The Author describes the problems and procedures involved in the painting of warships. Naval operation dictates that the initial painting during construction should be of the highest possible quality, to permit lengthy periods of trouble-free use. The Paper deals with specific topics such as initial preparation of the steel, maintenance of the primer, corrosion protection and weather work. Operational surfaces are also discussed in some detail.
