A PARADIGM FOR A DIGITAL ATLAS FOR ITS
The Information Base for ITS is geographically linked to roads and hence would require digital road maps for building Advanced Traveler Information Systems. This paper proposes a paradigm for a Digital Atlas to provide for a network of dynamic map-generation and distribution sources or centres for the end-users of ITS, organizing spatial information in the same way as maps, pop-up guides and catalogues used by travelers organize today's paper-based booklets, which are basically "static" in nature. The Atlas Publisher-Storehouse-User Paradigm provides the basis for developing a client-server architectural framework for implementing ITS Publisher, Server and Query functions as role models for various entities and participants of ITS.
