DEVELOPMENT OF THE ADVANCED TRAVELERS INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR SEOUL METROPOLITAN AREA
This paper introduces the system design and plan for the Advanced Travelers Information Systems of the Seoul Metropolitan Region (ATIS-SMR). This paper discusses: (1) the goals of the system and the objectives of the project; (2) the system structure; (3) business plan; (4) deployment plan; (5) field test plan; and (6) the legal and institutional issues concerning ATIS in Korea. ATIS is divided into Traffic and Road Information Systems (TRIS) and Value-added Travelers Information Systems (VTIS). The structure of ATIS is designed based on the principles fulfilling public and private interests. Private and public partnership is critical in operating ATIS-SMR, since more benefits can be obtained. ATIS-SMR project is the first area wide ATIS project in Korea and will mobilize ITS fields in Korea in many ways. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
