ACCESS TO THE STADE DE FRANCE AND TRANSPORT DURING THE 1998 FOOTBALL WORLD CUP
Access to the Stade de France has been the subject of many in-depth studies. Their purpose was to ensure that 80,000 spectators and the technical staff would have convenient access to the stadium, without hindering the daily life of local inhabitants nor the economic activity of this highly urbanised area just 2 km north of Paris. The challenge involved convincing at least 50,000 spectators to travel to the stadium by public transport and 15,000 in chartered coaches. During the Football World Cup (June-July 1998), the problem was made even worse by the influx of officials and journalists. Details of both the traffic plan and the general public awareness campaign are included. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
