EDUCATION ON DEMAND : WILL ITS BENEFIT FROM NEW ADVANCES IN EDUCATION AND TRAINING TECHNOLOGY?

This article studies the need for increased education and training for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) professionals. The concept of distance learning is introduced as a possible solution to the problem. Distance learning can offer the following techniques: conventional presentations, simulation-based training, and programmed instruction. The article concludes with a description of CITE, a consortium of more than 20 universities established for the collaborative development of ITS courses that focus on the use of Internet-based distance learning.
