REMOVING THE BARRIERS BETWEEN EDUCATION AND PRACTICE: TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR LOGISTICS AND MANAGEMENT

The faculty of the University of Tennessee's Department of Marketing, Logistics and Transportation were approached by graduate students who requested a course in the tools and techniques used by industry for logistics planning and management. This paper examines the role of computers and software application in logistics education, identifies barriers that have limited student experience with current logistics planning and management tools, suggests factors to help remove those barriers, addresses the influence of changes in business and technology on logistics and discusses the development of a course offered at the University of Tennessee.
