POSSIBLE DECREASE OF FUEL CONSUMPTION BY THE INTRODUCTION OF SPEED LIMITS
MOGELIJKE VERMINDERING VAN HET BENZINEVERBRUIK DOOR DE INSTELLING VAN SNELHEIDSBEPERKINGEN
The consumption of petrol by cars increases as the speed increases, so speed limits will lead to the possibility of decreasing fuel consumption. Calculations are made to estimate the decrease of fuel consumption resulting from speed limits of 100, 90 and 80 km/h for traffic outside built-up areas and in particular on roads where the speed is relatively high. The calculations of savings are only approximate but it is concluded that even the optimum reduction attainable by speed limits is only a small percentage of total consumption. /TRRL/
