THE MANCHESTER BENCHMARKS FOR RAIL VEHICLE SIMULATION - SUPPLEMENT TO VEHICLE SYSTEM DYNAMICS VOLUME 31

This supplement contains the results of the Manchester Benchmarking exercise for railway vehicle dynamics simulation packages. This exercise was initiated at the International Workshop on Computer Simulation of Rail Vehicle Dynamics held at Manchester Metropolitan University. Simulations using the new benchmarks were carried out using VAMPIRE; GENSYS; SIMPACK; ADAMS/Rail-MEDYNA and NUCARS. The two vehicles and four track cases are designed to represent typical modelling tasks carried out when assessing the dynamic behaviour of railway vehicles. The results are presented in the form of tables and plots comparing how each package predicts the vehicle behaviour. These results are discussed and the differences analysed.
