BRIDGE WEIGH-IN-MOTION SYSTEMS - AN OVERVIEW
Despite their potential the concept of using instrumented bridges to weigh vehicles in motion has been poorly explored in Europe. Hence, a considerable part of the 4th framework WAVE project has been dedicated to their further development and promotion. This paper brings an overview on bridge WIM systems. It briefly presents the existing types of these systems. their short theoretical background and utilisation as well as identifying factors which affect the accuracy of measurements. Some ongoing research and improvements in this area, supported by more accurate structural analysis and modelling, are presented. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102667.
