CONSTRUCTION BEHAVIOR OF ROAD SLOPE REINFORCED WITH GEOGRIDS
An embankment with about 100 m (323 ft) length and 20 m (62 ft) maximum height, with side slopes reinforced with geogrids was constructed in the Portuguese IP3 road near Lamego. The highest section of the embankment was monitored in terms of internal and surface movements, soil vertical pressures and reinforcement strains. This paper describes the geometry of the slope and the physical and mechanical characteristics of the foundations, fill and reinforcement materials. The construction method and the location of the monitoring equipment will also be referred. The behavior of the reinforced slope during the construction period will be analyzed in terms of induced reinforcement strains, vertical soil pressures distribution and face and internal movements.
