LOCAL BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF STEEL BRIDGE PIER UNDER CYCLIC LOADING
After the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake, much research was conducted in Japan in order to improve the seismic performance of steel bridge piers. In the present study, the authors deal with a steel bridge box pier with round corners, which is often employed in an urban area from an aesthetic viewpoint. In particular, they conduct a large deformation analysis of this bridge pier by the finite element method. For constitutive relationships, the three-surface model as well as the conventional J2- plasticity model is utilized. The analyses reproduce the local buckling near the lower end of the pier. The comparison of the numerical results with experimental data confirms the validity of the three-surface model for the analysis of a steel bridge box pier with round corners.
