VIDEO TECHNOLOGY IN TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AND TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

This paper examines different applications of video and machine vision technology in transportation engineering. It first distinguishes between the different technological characteristics of the technologies. Different application contexts and their associated costs are described. The appropriate match between the demands of a given application and the characteristics of the video technology suitable for that application are also discussed.
