POSSIBLE APPLICATION OF GPS FOR COLLECTING TRAVEL DATA
This paper reports on a study which examined the possible use of Global Positioning System (GPS) for monitoring multimodal travel. The study looked at: 1) the extent to which all travel modes may be recorded; 2) the accuracy of GPS; 3) the extent to which data other than standard GPS data can be recorded; 4) which user aspects, such as privacy, play a role in using the recording equipment available with GPS; and, 5) the possibility of automatically processing the data and the ability of dealing with problems that are encountered.
