EFFECTS OF DRIVING STYLE ON HEADWAY PREFERENCE AND ACCEPTANCE OF AN ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC)

This paper presents the results of driving simulator experiments on the effects of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) headways on driving behavior and acceptance. Focus is on establishing the magnitude of time headway individual car drivers prefer when driving with an ACC thus obtaining an indication of the headway that ACC systems should adopt as a default value. ACCs with three different headways were tested .
