A STEADY STATE AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF A MOORING SYSTEM
This study investigates the forces acting upon a cable-buoy-ship system and develops a digital computer simulation of its dynamics in three dimensions. The system that is discussed is excited by ship motions caused by ocean waves. Equilibrium equations are written for the subsurface buoys and cable for the steady state case, in which ship motions are assumed to be zero. A Runge-Kutta Scheme is used to solve the cable equations, and an iterative process is employed to effect the correct solution for the system. For the dynamic case, in which ship motions do exist, a lumped mass model of the cable and subsurface buoys is used. The equations of motion for each lumped mass element are numerically integrated simultaneously in the time domain. A particular cable-buoy-ship system is investigated, and the results are analyzed.
